Mirjana Lučić-Baroni Gets Croatia Fed Cup Call Up After 17-Year Break

Croatia Fed Cup team coach Iva Majoli has named Lučić-Baroni, Donna Vekić, Ana Konjuh and Darija Jurak in her team to play in the first Euro-Africa Zone tournament in Budapest from 4-7 February. The two best teams at the tournament will go on to World Group II qualifications.
Lučić-Baroni, who last played Fed Cup for Croatia in 1998, had a successful 2014, upsetting World Number 2 Simona Halep in the third round of the US Open, before beating Venus Williams at the Tournoi de Québec singles final to claim the title (also winning the doubles event). By winning the title she set the record for the longest gap between titles in the Open Era (16 years).
Besides hosts Hungary and Croatia, Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Israel, Lativa, Lichenstein, Portugal, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine and the UK will all be at next month’s Fed Cup tournament.
