National Park Mljet officially opened its doors to visitors on Saturday, 1st March 2025, marking the start of another season of outdoor adventure. Preparations are in full swing for The Great Refresh, a week-long outdoor activity programme, and the highly anticipated Mljet Trail race.

Spring Adventures in Croatia’s Oldest Marine Park

The Mljet Trail returns on Saturday, 3rd May, offering participants the chance to compete in one of Croatia’s most scenic trail-running events. Leading up to the race, visitors can take part in The Great Refresh, running from 28th April to 3rd May, featuring rock climbing, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), hiking, cycling, and kayaking.

With each passing year, more participants are drawn to the unique combination of sport and untouched nature on Mljet. Registration is now open, with limited spots available to preserve the park’s natural balance. The most popular routes remain the 13 km and 23 km trails, while last year’s introduction of the 42 km marathon course has quickly become a favourite among competitors.

The event also includes a children’s race on Sunday, 4th May, a 4 km course designed to inspire young runners and nature lovers. Registration for all races is now open via this LINK or at www.stotinka.hr.

Record Participation Expected in 2025

According to Ivan Sršen, Director of National Park Mljet, this year’s edition is set to break records:

“The Great Refresh gives participants the opportunity to try out different outdoor sports under expert guidance. This year, it coincides with the May Day holiday, making it an even more attractive experience. We invite all nature lovers to sign up and enjoy this unique programme in our national park. The Mljet Trail is already seeing record interest, and we expect some categories to reach their maximum number of participants.”

Sport, Nature, and Sustainability – The Perfect Combination

Mljet Trail has become a must-attend event for outdoor enthusiasts. The combination of adrenaline, sport, and untouched landscapes offers a unique experience, allowing participants to escape the fast-paced modern lifestyle and reconnect with nature.

“The Great Refresh enhances our park’s offering, allowing visitors to explore various outdoor activities throughout the week. We look forward to welcoming new adventurers who will fall in love with Mljet and the sports experiences it provides,” Sršen added.

Preserving Nature While Welcoming Visitors

During the winter months, the park has focused on sustainability projects and improvements to visitor infrastructure. These include applications for EU funding aimed at preserving natural habitats and enhancing visitor facilities.

“We are working on restoring valuable natural habitats, upgrading docking areas on the lakes, and constructing an emergency response station in cooperation with Dubrovnik-Neretva County. For over 60 years, nature lovers have visited the park while respecting its fragile ecosystem. Our experience with outdoor athletes has been excellent – they appreciate and follow our conservation recommendations,” Sršen emphasised.
