Most Successful Tourist Destinations Per Capita in Croatia in 2016

Over 15 million tourists have visited Croatia in 2016 creating more than 87 million overnight stays. That is growth of around 10% from 2015.
Whilst Rovinj, Poreč, Dubrovnik, Medulin, Umag, Hvar, Split, Zadar, Šibenik and Opatija may have been the most visited destinations in Croatia this year, they were not the most successful when it came to tourist arrivals and overnight stays per capita.
Daily Jutarnji list have published a list of the 8 most successful tourist destinations in Croatia in 2016 based on the size of the borough.
The absolute winner was the small Istrian village of Funtana. With a population of just 907 people, in the first 9 months of 2016 Funtana managed to attract 204,347 tourists who created 1.5 million overnight stays.
Funtana created 1,730 overnight stays per capita, more than double that of the second most successful destination, Tar-Vabriga.
Funtana, which stretches on both sides of the road Poreč – Vrsar, has a large number of restaurants, inns and wine cellars, as well as sports and recreational facilities. Funtana is also popular for naturist camping.
The village of Vrsar, with more than 195,000 arrivals and 676 overnight stays per capita, made sure than the top three were all Istrian destinations. Baška on the island of Krk and Lopar on the island of Rab rounded off the Top 5.
