My Mother’s Kitchen: Croatian Cultural Association in Australia publishes bilingual cookbook

The Croatian Cultural Association Cardinal Alojzije Stepinac Geelong was established in 2004. The Association is a non-profit organisation with its primary vision being: “To honour the past and work diligently to preserve Croatian culture and tradition.”
Over the years, the Association has hosted events such as cooking classes, cuisine festivals, workshops, and many other fundraising events. The concept was to incorporate the Croatian love of art, folklore dancing and music within the Geelong community and beyond.
One of the major projects was the production of the cookbook My Mother’s Kitchen / Kuhinja moje majke.
This was a collaborative effort by members of the wider community, who have shared and/or presented traditionally inspired recipes at the Association’s cooking classes.
My Mother’s Kitchen / Kuhinja moje majke is a bilingual cookbook, an absolute masterpiece, containing traditionally inspired Croatian recipes, which our families have been cooking since they arrived as immigrants to Australia.
The cookbook was originally published in 2019 and by popular demand released another further two edition in 2020 and 2021. With over 165 recipes from every region of Croatia and 495 photos, the Association has successfully sold over 4,500 books to all corners of the world.
The front cover of the cookbook itself, was created by Australian’s renowned artist Charles Bilich, whose own work hangs in such places as the Whitehouse, UN Headquarters, and the Vatican.

The Association is enormously proud of the cookbook My Mother’s Kitchen / Kuhinja moje majke as it pays homage to our mothers and grandmothers who cooked and baked. as they entwined stories of their childhood. In doing so, these amazing women embedded their love for cooking and maintained our connection to family and tradition.
