New Evidence as Police Tap Karabatic’s Phone in Match Fixing Scandal

Things are not looking good for France’s part Croatian handball star Nikola Karabatic, who was arrested last week under suspicion of being involved in a mayor betting scandal, after police tapped phone lines and have recorded the 28-year-old talking in a panic with team-mates about what they will tell police when questioned about the match fixing affair that has rocked French handball in recent days.

The accusations stem from May this year when Karabatic’s club Montpellier, who had already won the French Championship, played against Cesson-Rennes in the 24th round of the championship in a game that meant little.

The odds for Rennes were a massive 45-1 and they ended up winning the match 31-28. French media report that Karabatic, who is one of the best handball players in the world, was arrested last Sunday. Investigations continue.
