ZAGREB, 10 December 2019 – A brand new Japanese restaurant has opened its doors in the heart of downtown Zagreb.
Franko’s Street, which serves sushi and other Japanese dishes, has opened on Augusta Cesarca street in Ban centar on European square, just a few metres from Ban Jelacic square.
The restaurant is owned by Fran Zupic and is an extension of the Franko’s brand. Earlier this year Zupic opened the popular Franko’s pizza & bar restaurant on Branimir street.
The menu at Franko’s Street has been created by chef consultant Vid Nikolic and chef Goran Kunce, who was the chef at Japanese fusion restaurant Matsunoki on the island of Losinj.
JAPANESE FOOD, COFFEE AND BREAKFAST
The menu features Japanese specialties, with Adriatic tuna Kali one of the main ingredients. “It is in all dishes, including poke, which is additionally enriched with large Kvarner prawn tartar,” say the owners, adding that all ingredients, where possible, will be sourced from local producers.
Sushi, sashimi and tataki using Kali tuna dominates the menu, as well as several types of rolls. They also have a tartar steak, which in the Japanese version comes with sesame oil and quail egg yolk.
They have a fairly extensive range of champagnes which are poured by the glass and the desserts are created by famous Croatian pastry chef, Robert Hromalic from Le Kolac.
Franko’s Street will function like a cafe in the morning serving a range of sandwiches for breakfast. On Friday and Saturday the bar will be open until 2 am serving cocktails.
