Croatia is currently recording the best tourist results on the Mediterranean. Last month alone, 3.7 million tourists visited Croatia, realising 25 million overnight stays.
Not only were those numbers around 80 percent of the record year of 2019, but the first ten days of August have been even better than that, and some destinations have recorded more tourists than the record year, daily Vecernji list reported on Thursday.
One of those destinations, which was the most visited in Croatia in July with 909,000 overnight stays, is Rovinj in Istria. Everyday in August the seaside town has been experiencing growth of 2% compared to the same day in the record year of 2019.
Vir with 856,000 and Poreč with 734,000 overnight stays were the next most popular spots in the country.
The largest number of overnight stays are generated by German tourists, followed by Slovenians, Poles, Czechs and Austrians.
Croatia’s competitors have not been doing as well this summer, Italy is 51 percent behind in the first seven months of 2019, Greece’s deficit is 42 percent, while Spain, which had half as many guests in the first six months than last year, the deficit continues to grow. Compared to 2019, Spaniards have 74 percent fewer overnight stays.
“Excellent results so far and high booking for the rest of the season and even post-season are the result of excellent preparation and continuously high responsibility for a quality epidemiological situation. Croatia is currently the safest closest Mediterranean to the key emitting countries, which is why we attract great interest from tourists. Our task is to preserve the attractive tourist epidemiological situation for as long as possible, because in addition to the excellent main season, we can also have a long post-season, until the end of October,” points out Veljko Ostojić, director of the Croatian Tourism Association.
The Croatian National Tourist Board announced today that 93 percent of the results from the record 2019 have been achieved so far in August.
“That the trends in tourist traffic in the peak of this season are excellent is also shown by the eVisitor system data, according to which about 1.6 million arrivals and about 12 million overnight stays were realised in Croatia so far in August, which is a 20 percent increase in the same period last August for arrivals and 29 percent in overnight stays. Compared to the same period in August 2019, that is 80 percent of the results in arrivals and 93 percent in overnight stays,” the CNTB said.
