The new souvenir shop at the Vukovar Water Tower, a symbol of Croatian unity, has been officially opened, offering a wide range of products from local entrepreneurs, associations, and craftsmen.
– With the expansion and development of the Vukovar Water Tower souvenir shop, we are adapting to the growing number of visitors each year. With every effort, including this one, we strive to make the experience for our visitors as unique as possible.
The new, spacious shop not only provides a more comfortable workspace, but also allows for the display of a greater number of souvenirs from Vukovar producers, which will help promote them. I believe that this will also lead to better business results through the sale of souvenirs during tourists’ visits, said the Mayor of Vukovar, Ivan Penava, at the event.
He added that alongside the Najpar Café, the amphitheatre, and the stunning view of the Danube, the new Vukovar Water Tower gift shop will enrich the overall offering, making it more diverse and appealing.
Mirela Janković, Director of the Vukovar Water Tower, the symbol of Croatian unity, highlighted that the total value of the project, including the construction and supervision, was €408,041.60 including VAT.
It was financed by the City of Vukovar with €72,120.24, the Vukovar Water Tower with €10,750.47, and the Vukovar Reconstruction and Development Fund with €325,170.89. She expressed her gratitude to both the City of Vukovar and the Vukovar Reconstruction and Development Fund for their financial support in bringing the project to fruition.
The construction was carried out by the local company Planum Građenje d.o.o., with Confirmo d.o.o. overseeing the technical supervision.
Janković also pointed out that more than 20 souvenir producers are showcasing their products at the Vukovar Water Tower gift shop, with the most popular items being models of the Water Tower itself, available in various shapes and sizes.
The project was supported by the Vukovar Reconstruction and Development Fund, with its President, Ljiljana Blažević, noting that the Fund strives to invest in added value, which is evident in this project. “We are committed to the economic growth of small businesses, which are key to Vukovar’s development,” she said.
Since its opening, the Vukovar Water Tower – a symbol of Croatian unity – has welcomed over 390,000 visitors. In 2021, the Water Tower had 83,700 visitors, 111,133 in 2022, and 117,090 in 2023.
The increasing number of visitors each year shows that the Vukovar Water Tower has been recognised as an attractive tourist destination worth visiting.
