New commemorative postal block in honour of the success of the Vatreni – Philatelic edition with motifs of the Vatreni in official jerseys and the reception at Ban Josip Jelačić Square in Zagreb in 2022.
ZAGREB, January 27, 2023 – On January 31, 2023, Croatian Post will put into circulation a commemorative postal block to honour Croatia winning the bronze medal at the World Cup in Qatar held at the end of last year.
Three postage stamps show the Croatian national football team in their official kit and their welcome at Ban Josip Jelačić Square in Zagreb after the tournament.
The author of the block is Alenka Lalić, a designer from Zagreb, with photos by Drago Sopta, the official photographer of the Croatian Football Federation.
The block was printed in 30,000 copies, and the nominal value of each stamp in the block is 1.14 euros. Croatian Post also issued a commemorative envelope on the first day (FDC).
The Croatian national football team has already won three medals from six out of seven possible appearances at the World Cup.
The Vatreni won a bronze medal in France in 1998, and a silver medal in Russia four years ago. From the World Cup in 1998 until today, only Germany and France have won more medals than Croatia. The magnitude of the success of our football players is best illustrated by the fact that in addition to the Croatian national football team, only seven other national teams have won three or more medals at world championships.
Another historic football success was celebrated by tens of thousands of fans who welcomed the team at Ban Josip Jelačić Square and repeated the atmosphere and celebration from the summer of 2018. Back then, Croatian Post also issued a commemorative postage stamp that immortalized the success of our national team in Russia.
