France won the World Cup. But Croatia won hearts across the world.
That may have been the popular meme doing the rounds after Sunday’s final and there has been plenty of evidence of the last few days as messages have flooded in from all over the world.
No better example of how Croatia won the hearts of many at this year’s World Cup in Russia than from Peru where the proud parents of a newborn son have named him after Croatia’s captain.
A family in Peru have named their son Luka Modric. The boy was born in the city of Cajamarca day after Croatia knocked England out in extra-time and was named after Modric.
The Golden Ball winner now has a namesake in Peru where it is not uncommon for parents to name their sons after footballers.
There are reportedly already 870 people named Cristiano Ronaldo in Peru, 232 named Lionel Messi, 23 named Antoine Griezmann and now 1 Luka Modric.
