Croatian international Nikola Vlašić will leave the national team camp and miss the remainder of the European Championship in Germany due to a muscle injury, HNS confirmed today.
Vlašić sustained the injury during training and underwent an MRI scan today with Dr. Saša Janković, which revealed a minor muscle tear.
Head coach Zlatko Dalić, in consultation with Vlašić and the medical team, decided that Nikola would leave the camp as his injury prevents him from competing in matches during the Euros.
“Nikola has put in a tremendous amount of effort and energy to help the team at the Euros, and I am very sorry about this muscle injury he has sustained.
We knowingly accepted a certain level of risk because we had an expanded roster of 26 players, and Nikola is an integral part of this team, just as he wanted to be part of the team at a major tournament. Unfortunately, another injury occurred, and all I can do is thank Nikola for his tremendous effort and wish him a speedy recovery so he can return to the pitch in his best form,” stated head coach Zlatko Dalić.
“I am extremely sorry that due to this new injury, I won’t be able to help the team during this Euro. I did everything to prepare for the training camp, and I thank the coach and staff for the opportunity to show in training that I was ready, which I believe I did ahead of the Euros.
I wish the team the best of luck; I believe in them completely and am confident they will achieve new successes at this Euro. They will have the biggest supporter in me,” emphasised Vlašić.
