For 55 years, pop band Novi Fosili have weaved together numerous generations through their heartfelt songs and timeless melodies, making them a beloved by Croatians everywhere.
Last night’s concert by Novi Fosili at Arena Zagreb in the Croatian capital celebrated more than just their impressive career; it honoured the unique role Novi Fosili have played in bringing together fans young and old.
The overwhelming interest in this anniversary concert suggested to fans at Arena Zagreb that they were in for a true spectacle.
Just a glance at Novi Fosili’s extensive catalogue was enough to promise an evening filled with cherished hits from one of the most influential Croatian bands of all time.
The evening opened with the band performing “A pjevaju šume” to welcome the big crowd.
Sanja, Marinko, and Zec then took to the stage, accompanied by the Zagreb majorettes, icons of the city (as Novi Fosili’s story has always been intertwined with that of Zagreb).
The show began with “Da te ne volim,” a Novi Fosili classic that had the entire Arena singing along.
Following this was “Šuti moj dječače plavi,” which transitioned seamlessly into “Plava košulja,” symbolising Zagreb and GNK Dinamo, a partner of the concert.
The celebration continued with hits such as “Kad budemo ja i ti 63,” “Ne može mi ništa cijeli svijet,” “Tako je malo riječi palo,” “E moj Saša,” the heartfelt “Pazi da ne nazebeš,” and “Ana.”
The Palić sisters then joined Sanja, Marinko, and Zec on stage to perform beautiful renditions of “Sedam dugih godina” and “Djeca ljubavi.”
After “Na Badnju noć,” “Suzi,” “Sanja,” “Valentino i Renato,” came an especially poignant moment. During “Ja sam šef” and a moving film montage, the arena paid tribute to Slobodan Momčilović Moka, the band’s founding member.
The line-up continued with “Ma šta je tebi,” “Dijete sreće,” and “Ljubav koja nema kraj,” before musical legends Neki to vole vruće briefly took over, filling the arena with classics like “Kakva noć,” “Jeans generacija,” and “Bojler.”
In a teaser for their own concert on Valentine’s Day at Tvornica Kulture, Neki to vole vruće left the stage to applause, and the Novi Fosili resumed their journey through their rich catalogue.
Hits like “Tonka,” “Najdraže moje,” “Čuješ li me,” “Nikad više,” “Reci mi tiho,” “Diridonda,” “Kad naš brod plovi,” and “Još te volim” followed.
“Još te volim” was the perfect lead-in to the most emotional moment of the night, a performance of “Milena” with the recorded vocals of the late Rajko Dujmić.
This wave of emotion was followed by yet another when the renowned percussion group Zli bubnjari joined the stage for “Ispod mjeseca” in honour of the late Nenad Šarić, Novi Fosili’s drummer and Sanja Doležal’s husband.
The concert continued with “Dobre djevojke,” which had the whole Arena on their feet, leading into a lively dance for “Ja sam za ples.” The regular set ended with “Dobra stara vremena,” one of Novi Fosili’s biggest hits, as the entire audience joined in unison.
After a flood of applause, Sanja, Marinko, and Zec returned to the stage with “Samo mi se javi” as the video wall paid tribute to Đurđica Barlović.
The emotional tone carried on with “Neveni žuti,” “Bilo mi je prvi put,” and “E da si barem noćas ovdje.” The night concluded with “Dobra stara vremena,” the highlight of the evening, as all the night’s performers joined Sanja, Marinko, and Zec on stage for a grand finale, singing the last song of an unforgettable night together with the entire audience.
Last night, Sanja, Marinko, and Zec led the audience on a journey spanning more than five decades, a journey symbolising good vibes, friendship, and emotions that connect all generations, proving their music to be truly timeless.
