The Croatian National Home of Hamilton, Canada held a Gala dinner in honour of its 95th anniversary on Saturday.
Approximately 300 people attended this event, which included performances by the CNH Senior children’s group along with the organization’s adult tambura ensemble Hrvatsko Srce.
Attendees enjoyed entertainment by two local musical bands: Grupa Volta and Rujno Vino.
A number of dignitaries attended this event: Croatian Ambassador Vice Skračić, Consul General Ante Jović, Member of Provincial Parliament Donna Skelly, Hamilton city councillors Jeff Beattie and Matt Francis along with former mayor Bob Bratina and dignitaries from the Canadian-Croatian Folklore Federation (East) and the Croatian Fraternal Union of America.
The Croatian National Home (Hrvatski narodni dom in Croatian), is the oldest Croatian cultural organization in Canada. Its Croatian folklore program is the longest running in North America and with approximately 120 youth members, is among the largest on the continent.
Currently, the organization is in the process of obtaining building permits and site plan approval for a new Dom to be built in Stoney Creek, a part of Hamilton with a large ethnic Croatian population.
The organization looks forward to beginning construction once it obtains approval from municipal authorities.
