ZAGREB, 27 Aug (Hina) – The 74th edition of the Boris Hanžeković Memorial will take place at the Mladost Stadium in Zagreb from 8 September, organisers of this athletics competition announced earlier this week.
One of the most exciting events will be a new showdown between the two best female discus throwers of the last decade, both double Olympic champions – Sandra Elkasević of Croatia and Valarie Allman of the United States.
The meeting’s project manager, Natko Bošnjak, announced some other highlights of the three-day competition.
“At the Zagreb City Challenge, a long jump competition to be held on 6 September at Ban Josip Jelačić Square Square, we will see two medalists from the Paris Olympics, Jasmine Moore and Shanieka Ricketts, as well as two finalists, Ackelia Smith and Alina Rotaru-Kottmann.
The shot put competition, the 10th Ivan Ivančić Memorial, will take place on 7 September at the throwing area next to the Zagreb fountains,” he said.
“The Boris Hanžeković Memorial is the oldest sports event in Croatia. It has been held since 1951 in honour of hurdler Boris Hanžeković, who was killed in WWII. From 2020 on, the meeting is a part of the WA Continental Tour Gold series, according to the information on the event’s website.
