TOKYO, 27 July 2021 – Australia has upset Croatia in the water polo at the Olympic Games in Tokyo on Tuesday night at Tatsumi Waterpolo Centre.
Australia beat Croatia 11: 8 (3: 3, 2: 0, 2: 3, 4: 2). Croatia now has one win and one loss after the first two rounds.
Croatia’s assistant coach Sandro Sukno said they expected Australia to be aggressive and deserved the win.
“They dominated the whole game. We have to analyse today’s game as soon as possible because we will soon have perhaps the most important game in the group against Montenegro. The situation in the group has now become very complicated. We need to prepare well and with that victory we will return to the right path to making the quarterfinals,” he said.
Croatia’s top scorer was Maro Joković with three goals, while Luka Bukić and Loren Fatović scored two goals each and Obradović one goal.
“It did not end as we imagined, but the good thing is that we have time to correct it. We didn’t play good on defence as well as with a player less. We made some incomprehensible mistakes from which they scored easy goals. We have the quality we need to get out of this difficult situation,” said Loren Fatović.
Croatia now face Montenegro on Thursday, July 29 at 8:30 Croatian time.
