For the first time since the 1990’s homeland war, Osijek Airport in eastern Croatia is coming close to breaking its passenger record from the busy mid 1980’s….
In the mid to late 1980’s Osijek Airport would see around 40,000 passengers pass through the airport annually, and this year they could come close again. In the first three months of 2014 Osijek Airport has seen a massive 578% more passengers than in the same period last year. Flights to all of Croatia’s major cities – Zagreb, Rijeka, Split and Dubrovnik, now operate from Osijek, and recently London was added to its schedule.
“Already now near the end of the fourth month of the year we are reaching the same passenger numbers as we had all of last year,” said the airport’s director Domagoj Marinić.
Osijek Airport are set to introduce flights shortly to Egypt and Tunis, and predict that 2014 could be the airports best year since before the war more than 20 years ago.
