Over 14,000 Employed at Agencies, Institutes and Funds in Croatia

More than 14,500 people are employed in 40 state agencies, 16 institutes and 5 funds in Croatia, with close to half of those employed at institutes, according to government data…
The government released the public sector data after a request from politician Dragutin Lesar back in September for the exact number of state agencies, institutes and funds in the country. Institutes were the largest employer in the state sector with 7,868 employed in 16 various institutes. The government says that 6,390 were employed in 40 state agencies and 291 people were working at 5 state-run funds, bringing the total number of employees to 14,549.
Financial agency FINA were the largest agency employers with 3,128 people on their books, followed by the Paying Agency for Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development (671 employees) and the Croatian Agriculture Agency (323 people). The largest employing institute was the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute which employed 2,892 people.
At the end of 2013 there were 1.4 million people employed in total in Croatia.
