Good news for sports fans in the Croatian city of Bjelovar. Mayor Dario Hrebak has announced that construction of a brand-new stadium is set to begin this autumn.
The modern stadium, with a capacity of 3,800 seats, will meet the requirements for top-tier football in Croatia if the opportunity arises.
The project, valued at around €8 million, will also include Croatia’s first indoor shooting range for small-calibre rifles and pistols, located beneath the stands.
A major driving force behind the project is Bjelovar-local Miran Maričić’s bronze medal win in the 10m air rifle event at the Paris Olympics.
His success has played a key role in securing financial backing for the arena.
With funding now in place, a tender for the main construction project and building permit will be issued next week.
In addition to the new stadium, Bjelovar’s existing city stadium will undergo renovations, including the construction of a new stand.
