A one-eyed monster named Pool designed by 12-year-old Croatian girl Karla Reljić has made it all the way on to the set of the one of the world’s most popular television series…
Reljić’s design last year beat thousands of entrants from all over the world to win IKEA’s Soft Toys for Education drawing competition. The design was then made into a soft toy and it has now made its way to appear in a scene of Grey’s Anatomy last week (episode 14 season 12). Reljić’s distinct blue, one-eyed monster appeared with other soft toys at a children’s hospital scene.
The young Zagreb school girl won IKEA’s Soft Toys for Education competition last year and became the first ever designer for global giants IKEA from Croatia in the process.
Soft Toys for Education is partnership between the IKEA Foundation, UNICEF and Save the Children, first launched thirteen years ago. For every Soft Toy or children’s book sold from the IKEA Foundation donates 1 euro to children’s education projects. Last year the campaign raised over 10 million euros, and this far the foundation has helped over 11 million children from 46 different countries.
Grey’s Anatomy is one of the highest-rated dramas in the 18–49 demographic and was named the fifth-highest revenue earning show in 2012 in terms of advertising per half-hour.
