ZAGREB, 27 March (Hina) – The construction of the Gaming Industry Centre has begun in Novska, with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Sisak-Moslavina County Prefect Ivan Celjak laying a time capsule in the foundations on Tuesday, highlighting the project’s significance for the county’s demographic and economic revitalisation.

The Gaming Industry Centre, a strategic investment in the Novska Business Zone and the first of its kind in Europe, will include an incubator and accelerator for the gaming industry, infrastructure for university programmes in the field, as well as all associated student and sports facilities.

“Over the past three decades, Sisak-Moslavina County has endured war devastation, a difficult economic transition, depopulation and, most recently, severe earthquake damage. Today, however, it is leading the way in forward-looking  economic and educational transformation. A difficult chapter has been closed and a new one is heading in the right direction.,” said Prime Minister Plenković.

The project is funded through the Just Transition Fund, with the first phase valued at just under €39 million. This phase will involve the construction of necessary roads, faculty buildings, a student hall of residence, sports facilities and an energy plant for the Novska Business Zone. The construction of the first phase is expected to take two years, and the Tromont company has announced that the works will be completed on schedule.

In two years’ time, upon completion of the centre, which will employ 60 people, Novska expects to attract young people to the area.

The project also fulfils three of the Croatian government’s strategic goals: attracting young people to Sisak-Moslavina County, demographic revitalisation and supporting the creative industry, which contributes to the digitalisation of Croatian society and, in turn, the decarbonisation of the economy, the prime minister said.

“This project is part of Croatia’s efforts to adapt investments in the economy, enhance competitiveness in future industries and promote digital transformation, a key priority of the Croatian government. It has been designed in line with broader European and global trends and priorities,” Plenković emphasised, adding that the government will continue to support the project.

Officials in Novska hope that, following the start of construction, contracts for the second phase of the project will be signed soon.
