HNK Segesta is the oldest Croatian football club which has been operating under the same name and without interruptions to date and on Wednesday afternoon they celebrated their 110th birthday with a game against the Croatian national team…
Croatia managed to spoil the party for Segesta with a 8:1 victory today in Sisak. The club is named after the Illyrian settlement Segesta from which modern city of Sisak developed. The match was used as a hit out for Ante Čačić’s men ahead of Monday’s FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifying opener against Turkey in Zagreb.
Led by new captain Luka Modrić, Croatia took the lead in the 7th minute through Mario Mandžukić. Half an hour later Andrej Kramarić doubled the lead after an assist from Juventus’ Marko Pjaca.
Pjaca then laid on the third goal for his club teammate Mandžukić to make it 3-0. Ivan Perišić made it 4-0 just before half-time and then treated the crowd to some quality when he scissor-kicked home for 5-0.
Goals from Nikola Kalinić and Duje Čop made it 8:0 before Segesta on their birthday had the final say of the match with a goal from Kožić just before the end of the match.
