The production for HBO series Game of Thrones has left Dubrovnik for the last time after wrapping filming in Croatia, The Dubrovnik Times reports.
Filming for the finale Season 8 of Game of Thrones took place over the past few days at locations around Dubrovnik.
One of the main talking points during the four days of filming was a couple of the show’s main characters – Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) being spied meeting at King’s Landing.
Dubrovnik and other locations around Croatia, including Split, have been used as the location for Game of Thrones since Season 2 after Malta was originally used.
Filming in Croatia has provided the country with a huge tourism boost, especially in Dubrovnik.
According to a study made in 2017, 244,415 tourists visited Dubrovnik between 2012 and 2015 due to Game of Thrones using the city as a filming location. Around 60,000 people have visited the Dubrovnik region annually, solely because the series was shot there.
The analysis says that those motivated to visit Dubrovnik because of Game of Thrones have spent 126 million euros from 2012 to 2015.
Season 8 will not hit screens until 2019.
