29 December 2019 – Works are progressing as planned on a new tourist attraction in Biokovo Nature Park above the Makarska Riviera on the Dalmatian coast.
The construction of the Skywalk viewpoint, 1228 metres up Biokovo mountain at Ravna Vlaska pass, is starting to take shape. The glass viewing platform, which protrudes out 12 metres from the cliff of the mountain, is just one of the features of the 34.2 million kuna Novi Adrion – Promotion of the sustainable use of the Biokovo Nature Park’s natural heritage project.
As well as the skywalk, the project includes the upgrading and development of roads and pedestrian-biking trails, refurbishing and constructing of rest areas, playgrounds, the installation of panoramic telescopes, a multi-media visitor centre, and the improvement of transportation with the introduction of shuttle buses and electric bikes.
The project, which is financed from the European Regional Development Fund, is expected to be fully complete and ready to welcome visitors in 2021, but the skywalk, which will be the only one of its kind in Croatia, is set to open in 2020.
Project partners are the Public Institution Makarska Development Agency “MARA” and the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service – HGSS, participating in the implementation.
“The main objectives are to increase the educational capacity of Biokovo Nature Park’s visitors through the development of new educational programs and contents, increasing the attractiveness of Biokovo NP’s natural heritage and increasing the number of visitors to the Park,” Biokovo NP said.
