Croatia’s stunning Plitvice Lakes National Park have had a bumper start to the season, with last year’s record tourist year looking like it may be broken this year…
Plitvice Lakes National Park had its best tourist year in 2013 ever, when over 1.2 million visitors passed through the gates. But, it seems that record could be smashed this year with the popular tourist attraction recording 10% more visitors currently this year compared with the same period during the record year.
The popular National Park has recently seen its first major investment, with two new panoramic mobiles and restoration of the old Lika house costing more than 1 million euros. Plitvice Lakes earlier this year were named in The World’s Most Beautiful Places by popular travel guide Lonely Planet.
“This Unesco World Heritage–listed park is made up of interlinked and cascading lakes, caves and forest. The colours of the lakes range from azure to green, blue and even grey,” is how travel guide company Lonely Planet described Croatia’s Plitvice Lakes in the latest edition of its bestselling yearbook Beautiful World.
