ZAGREB, June 8, 2021 – The Istrian town of Poreč will host the 7th Days of Croatian Pršut where the awards for the best pršut in Croatia will take place.
If you are a fan of this delicacy, but also of beautiful Istria, book the date of June 18th and 19th, because this year Poreč will play host to the largest event dedicated to protected Croatian pršut.
There are a total of four pršuts with EU protection – Krk, Drniš and Dalmatian with protected geographical origin, and Istrian with protected original origin. One of them will take the title of the best in Croatia during the 7th Days of Croatian Pršut.
On 19 June, from 8 am to 5 pm, producers will sell all four protected pršuts at promotional prices on the Poreč waterfront. They will be joined by producers of cheese and IQ Malvasia and Teran organised by Vinistra.
The Days of Croatian Pršut have been promoting one of the most sought-after Croatian delicacies for seven years, which is confirmed by the figures. Namely, on the domestic market, twice as much (1 million) pršut is eaten per year than is produced (450,000). Croatia imports more than 400 thousand pieces.
Although slightly less pršut was eaten in Croatia during the pandemic, producers say that sales have dropped by about thirty percent on average, the potential for production growth is huge.
Participants and visitors of the Days of Croatian Pršut will have to adhere to epidemiological measures, the Croatian Pršut Cluster, the organiser of the event, said.
This year’s event is held under the auspices of Zoran Milanović, President of the Republic of Croatia, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Croatian Chamber of Commerce, Istria County, City of Poreč, Tourist Board of Poreč and the City of Zagreb.
