Preserving Trogir’s unique cultural identity through dance

The Croatian town of Trogir recently celebrated an important cultural manifestation, known as Dan o’ Kvadrilje, celebrating the Quadrille dance on the occasion of World Dance Day.
The event saw the impressive performance of KUD Kvadrilja, a cultural and artistic society with a half-century-long history in Trogir. The society was founded with the aim of preserving and popularizing Trogir’s unique cultural identity.
The festivities began at noon on Pjaca, where a group of sixteen couples, accompanied by a Mandolin Orchestra, performed a traditional dance that has been preserved in its original form only in Trogir.
Dozens of visitors and locals alike had the opportunity to witness and experience moments of Trogir’s unique dance heritage.
At the end of the performance, a formal session was held in the City Hall in honor of Quadrille Day. During the session, the company’s strategic development document was presented, and awards were given to the founders and members of the company.
The event was preceded by a seminar called “Quarters in the Environment,” which was opened by Marica and Tonči Tadin. They presented the Trogir, Kastelan, and Split quartets, as well as the Quadrille of Župa Pelješka and two quadrilles from the Italian province of Molise. Moderator Prof. Vinko Bagur conducted the seminar with the cooperation of Marica and Tonča Tadin.
KUD Kvadrilja is one of the oldest and most prominent cultural and artistic societies in Trogir. The society’s aim is to preserve and promote Trogir’s unique cultural identity through traditional dance performances. Their performances showcase the authentic and traditional dance of Trogir, which is a vital part of the city’s heritage.
The day was a joyful and memorable cultural event for both locals and tourists in Trogir. The event celebrated the city’s unique cultural identity and brought attention to the importance of preserving traditional dance forms.
