A Croatian co-production film has won a World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award at the famous Sundance Film Festival in the US on the weekend.
Circles, directed by Srdan Golubovic and co-produced by Croatia’s Propeler Film, tells three parallel stories taking place in Belgrade, Hale (Germany) and Trebinja, and follows the characters who, having witnessed events in the past, are motivated to make life-changing decisions. Nebojsa, who witnessed an event in which his best friend died confronts his best friend’s murderer; Haris, played by Croatian actor Leon Lucev, owes his life to a hero who made an enormous sacrifice for him, settles the debt by risking everything and helping a woman in peril; while the son of one of the murderers gradually paves the way for overcoming the tragic past.
following on from its success at the Sundance Film Festival, Circles will be screened in the forum programme at the Berlin Film Festival.
