A new record has been set at Rijeka’s port in Croatia’s northern Adriatic…
On Friday morning Rijeka port welcomed in the largest boat in its history when the Danish giant Gerda Maersk sailed into the container terminal. Built in 2009, the Gerda Maersk container ship is 367 metres long, 42.9 metres wide with a capacity to carry 10,000 containers. Gerda Maersk made its way to Croatia from Malta, via Trieste. Owned by Mediterranean Shipping Company, and built by Daewoo in South Korea, the MSC Oscar is reportedly the world’s largest container ship at just under 400 metres long with a capacity to carry 20,000 standard 20ft containers.
