Rijeka Carnival to take place from 17 Jan – 26 Feb

RIJEKA 7, January 2020 – One of the most colourful and fun periods of the year will get underway in Rijeka in ten days time.
The famous Rijeka Carnival, which is now in its 37th year and is on the list of the 500 most important events in Europe, will open this year on 17 January and will end on 26 February 2020.
The opening event, as always, will be the Rijeka Carnival Queen pageant and the handing over of the city key when carnival-goers “officially” take over the city.
What follows is weeks of masked madness, parties, concerts, balls, and fun for all ages culminating with the International Carnival Parade which draws people from all around Europe and has been a February tradition in the city since 1982, with more than 150,000 visitors last year.
Highlight of events during the carnival period include:
17 January – Antonja – raising of the Pust / Rijeka Carnival Queen Pageant and Handover of the City Key / Masquerade ball at Pašac
21 January – The Frajle, concert
24 January – Masquerade ball at Pašac
25 January – Carnival masquerade balls at Zamet
2 February – The 11th prince and princess contest – Tower Centre Rijeka
8 February – Children’s Carnival Parade – Korzo / Carnival Snowboard Session 2020
15 February – Traditional carnival concert by Trsat-Rijeka brass band / Masked Paris-Bakar Rally
16 February – Masked Pehin
23 February – International Carnival Parade – Korzo
26 February – The trial and burning of the Pust
