Rijeka to Get New Football Stadium

Croatian football club NK Rijeka are set to get a brand spanking new stadium. Rijeka’s current stadium Kantrida, which is arguably one of the most picturesque in Europe, will receive get a facelift with work set to start in May next year.
NK Rijeka’s President Damir Mišković has confirmed that the brand new stadium will be in exactly the same position as Kantrida.
“The ground will be lifted up four metres because of underground drainage. It will be a demanding construction and a little expensive but the stadium will be completely covered. The first phase of the project will be 11,000 seats in the east stand, with the ability to upgrade to a capacity of 18,000. A hotel, or more relaxing day rooms for players will be built at the stadium, and where the training pitch and car park is currently there will be restraints and shops built, including a NK Rijeka fan shop, Mišković told daily Novi list, adding that the stadium will take around 12-13 months to complete. Rijeka will play their home matches in Pula whilst construction is going on.
