Rijeka have beaten champions Dinamo Zagreb to lift the Croatian Super Cup for the first time in the club’s history on Friday night in Rijeka…
The hosts deservedly won the traditional season opener, which pits the league winners against the cup winners, 2-1, after the scores were locked at 1-1 at halftime. Goals from new signing Miral Samardžić and Brazilian Moises in the 70th minute gave Rijeka the well-earned victory.
“Congratulations Rijeka on winning the trophy and the well deserved victory. They showed more than us, and we didn’t start the game well. We started nervously, from the defence onwards, and Rijeka made the most of it,” Dinamo Zagreb coach Zoran Mamić said after the loss.
