VIDEO: Croatia’s Eurovision hit inspires irresistible ‘Rim Tim’ dessert

Baby Lasagna will represent Croatia with his song “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” at Eurovision next week in Sweden.
There has been big support for Baby Lasagna which has seen him become the bookmakers’ favourite to win the 68th Eurovision Song Contest with his song about a young Croatian who leaves his hometown with hopes to become a “city boy” with better opportunities.
Now, just days out from the semi-finals, support has come in a sweet form for the 28-year-old.
Marin Medak, the chef at popular Zagreb establishment RougeMarin, was so inspired by the song Rim Tim Tagi Dim that he created a new dessert which irresistibly resembles the song with its flavours.
At first glance, a seemingly unusual combination of strawberries, cocoa chips, gingerbread, salted caramel, whipped cream, and a touch of salt blended into an irresistible taste, has already earned early praise.
“The inspiration behind creating this dessert is definitely the contrast that runs through the entire song and also ‘permeates’ the flavours of my new dessert, Rim Tim. Strawberries represent the countryside, while milk chocolate represents the city. The symbol of Lasagna’s cow is whipped cream, and there are some unusual, eclectic flavours that are not typically found in sweet desserts, like gingerbread and salt.
The contrast in the song, which is very strong, I wanted to translate into similarly contrasting flavours. For example, the gingerbread and salt on caramel, representing the Croatian sea, and the flavours of bitter cocoa chips with sweet whipped cream. When you taste it, you’ll experience the aftertaste of milk chocolate with the gentle sweetness of strawberries – brilliant flavours for a brilliant song!” explained Chef Marin Medak.

Medak, who promises that if “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” wins in Sweden the dessert will remain permanently on the menu, invites people to taste the sweet version of the song at RougeMarin City at Petrinjska 2 and at the RougeMarin bistro at Folnegovićeva 10.

The semi-finals of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 will take place on Tuesday 7 and Thursday 9 May, with the final in the Malmö Arena on Saturday 11 May.
