At RIT Croatia campuses, the Student Government stands as the driving force behind the organization of the annual Charity Auction for more than two decades, exemplifying its commitment to fostering community engagement and philanthropy. This event not only serves as a testament to their organizational prowess but also embodies the core values of the institution.

This year’s auction consisted of bidding in an online environment via the AirAuctioneer platform, individual donations from the community, and live events in Dubrovnik and Zagreb where students, employees, and graduates bid on various items.

This year, a record amount of 7,100 EUR was collected through the mentioned activities. The students will donate the collected funds to the Krijesnica Association to help children and families facing malignant diseases.

Learning outcomes from organizing charitable events

The Charity Auction at RIT Croatia is more than just a fundraising event; it is a platform through which students learn valuable life skills and contribute meaningfully to the community.

The student government, responsible for coordinating the auction, gains hands-on experience in event planning, teamwork, and effective communication. These practical skills complement the academic curriculum and prepare students for real-world challenges beyond the classroom.

The learning outcomes extend beyond logistical and organizational skills. The process of planning and executing the Charity Auction provides students with a unique experiential learning opportunity. They develop a deep understanding of project management, financial responsibility, and marketing strategies. Additionally, the collaborative nature of the event fosters leadership skills, as students work together to achieve a common goal.

“The Student Government of RIT Croatia has organized the traditional charity auction for many years, and this year we decided to donate all the collected money to the Krijesnica Association, which helps children with malignant diseases and their families. Thanks to our partner companies and individuals, we collected a record 7,100 EUR, which will be donated to the association. We are extremely grateful for the participation of more than 100 sponsors, without whom this would not be possible. It is a good feeling to help those who need it the most and I am convinced that the Student Union will continue this tradition in the future, said Andrea Đanić, President of the Student Government, RIT Croatia.

Beyond the educational aspects, the higher cause of the Charity Auction is rooted in giving back to the community. The funds raised through the event are directed toward charitable initiatives that address local needs. This commitment to social responsibility instills a sense of civic duty among the student body, reinforcing the importance of making a positive impact on the world around them.

RIT Croatia Fusion Fest complementing the auction cause

Around the same time of the auction, members of the Eta Sigma Delta honorary society of the Hospitality and Tourism Management program at RIT Croatia’s Dubrovnik campus, in collaboration with the Meeting & Events Management class led by faculty member Milena Kužnin, organized a delightful and festive event named RIT Croatia Fusion Fest. The event, held at RIT Croatia’s Dubrovnik campus, offered a unique merge of American and Croatian Christmas traditions, bringing together students, faculty, and staff for a day of holiday cheer with a charitable twist as well.

All funds raised at the Fusion Fest were added to the amount collected at the Charity Auction showcasing once again the collaborative efforts and demonstrating the sense of community that defines the RIT Croatia experience.
