Wilson (72), who is described by many as the world’s foremost avant-garde theater artist of independent cinema, has thrilled audiences over the years with his works ranging from opera to design and even video art, working on music videos for Lady Gaga. Wilson, famous independent film director Jim Jarmusch and composer Phil Kline are working on an opera about the life of inventor Nikola Tesla, and Zagreb’s HNK are set to be one of the co-producers, reports daily Vecernji list.
“I’m currently obsessed with Nikola Tesla. I’m making an opera about his work with [filmmaker] Jim Jarmusch and [composer] Phil Kline. I have been fascinated by Tesla since I was a student—his ideas about electricity and light and the elegance in his dress ” Wilson said in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal.
Zagreb HNK’s intendant Dubravka Vrgoč is currently at a workshop at the Watermill Center in Water Mill, New York, and will hold a press conference on her arrival back to Croatia to reveal more about the project, but the opera is not set to be released until the end of next year.
