Everything is ready for the eighth edition of the Salt Festival in Pelješac.

The event kicks off on the 28th of August and will run until the 15th of September, taking place at various locations in Ston.

The most exciting moments are expected during the peak of the festival, from the 29th of August to the 1st of September.

The first four days of the festival feature captivating guided tours, “Tell me… about Salt and Ston”. These tours begin at 6 pm at the historic Ston Saltworks, followed by a chance to try your hand at salt harvesting from 7 pm.

“As both events are highly attractive and appealing to tourists and locals alike, reservations for the guided tours and workshops are required, and can be made via social media or by emailing [email protected],” says Fani Slade, the Director of the Ston Tourist Board.

She adds that visitors to Pelješac during the peak of the festival can also look forward to creative workshops at the Ston Saltworks.

Additionally, on the 29th of August at 4 pm, in collaboration with the Marin Držić House, the Komarda Art Park Symposium will be held at Kaštio Fortress.

At this stunning location, an exhibition titled “The Mosaic of Marin Držić and St. Blaise” will open at 8 pm on the same day.

Two days later, on the 31st of August at 7:30 pm, the Student Theatre Lero will perform the play “The City in Parac’s Palm”.

The St. Cross Choir from Gruž will also be arriving in Ston, giving a sacred music concert at 11 am on the 1st of September at St. Blaise’s Parish Church.

From Great Music to the Eco Market

The Ston Saltworks will also host an outstanding music programme. On the evening of the 29th of August, the venue will feature Wine, Salt & Jazz Night with a performance by the Blusound Trio and a tasting of Pelješac wines.

On the 30th of August, enjoy “Let’s Salt the Party” with DJ Zhaja and intriguing cocktails flavoured with samphire and salt. For the grand finale on the 1st of September, the Circus Collective from Split will present a spectacular juggling and acrobatic performance, “Circus in the Salt”.

Throughout the festival, King Tomislav Square in Ston will transform into a traditional Eco Market, showcasing the local products of Ston, Pelješac, and small-scale Croatian producers. There are also two more fascinating festival events scheduled for September.

On the 8th of September at 8 pm, the Kolarin Theatre Group will perform the play “Matrimonijo” by Jozo Lovrić Jadrijev at Kaštio Fortress.

Nearing the end of the festival, on the 14th of September from 7 pm at the Rector’s Palace in Ston, members of the St. Blaise Lions Club will enchant the evening with the most beautiful love poems during a charity event in support of the Children of Pelješac Association.

Exquisite Food and Wine at Promotional Prices

The Salt Festival in Ston is the third and final summer festival in Pelješac, following the Pelješac Captains’ Festival and the Pelješac Flavours Festival.

“In addition to the extensive programme, all three festivals share an exceptional food and wine offer at around forty Pelješac restaurants, taverns, and wineries across the peninsula, where festival menus and some of the renowned Pelješac wines are available at promotional prices.

This concept of summer festivals was designed and realised by all four tourist boards on the Pelješac peninsula – the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Orebić, the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Trpanj, the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Janjina, and the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Ston, with the support of local hospitality businesses, winemakers, shellfish farmers, and associations in Pelješac.

It has proven to be a great success, not only for our guests but also for the local community,” explains Fani Slade.
