San Pedro hosts Croatian Tennis Tournament as Team USA prepares for Croatian World Games

The 53rd Croatian tennis tournament was held on Saturday, April 1, at the prestigious private club, Elks Lodge No. 966 in San Pedro, California.
The event was attended by Croatian men and women residing in southern California and was held under the auspices of the American Croatian Congress. The Croatian Tennis Sports Association, which is also a member of the congress, organized the tournament.
Nada Pritisanac Matulich, the President of the American Croatian Congress, welcomed all the tennis players who participated in the tournament. She also expressed gratitude to Zeljko Sumera, the head of the Croatian Tennis Association, for organizing the 53rd tournament.
Nada, who successfully coordinated the Croatian World Games (HSI) in 2017 as the USA coordinator, was appointed for the second time as the National Coordinator for the USA for the Croatian World Games. The HSI 2023 will be held in Zagreb from July 24-29, 2023.
Before the tournament commenced, Nada held a brief working meeting where Zeljko Sumera was elected as the head of the USA tennis team at the national level, TEAM USA, for HSI 2023 in Zagreb.
Coordinator Nada also presented the official jersey of the American Croats, TEAM USA, which was selected for HSI in 2023. She informed the attendees that as of April 1, 2023, more than 80 competitors in several sports disciplines, along with their family members, had signed up for TEAM USA. Everyone was eagerly anticipating the opportunity to go to their Homeland for HSI and to socialize with Croatian emigrants from other continents.
After the tournament concluded, there was a gathering at the Elks Lodge with a shared lunch, followed by the announcement of the winner of the 53rd Croatian Tennis Tournament and the presentation of cups and medals. Zeljko Sumera emerged as the winner of this year’s tournament.
The winners of groups A, B, and C were Zeljko Sumera, Domagoj Duvnjak, and Alen Slavica, respectively.
