In a significant move to enhance safety in primary schools across the Croatian capital Zagreb, Deputy Mayor Danijela Dolenec announced today that professional security personnel will be stationed at school entrances starting in the second semester.

The City of Zagreb will cover the costs of employing security firms until the end of the academic year.

Temporary Measures for Long-Term Safety

According to Deputy Mayor Dolenec, the Ministry of Science, Education, and Youth will use this time to train and employ dedicated safety personnel for schools.

This new approach aligns with the Ministry’s recently published Protocol on Entry and Exit Control in School Facilities, which mandates that school entrances remain locked and staffed during working hours.

The protocol also stipulates strict entry procedures for parents and visitors, requiring prior notification or an invitation from the school.

Supporting Schools with Practical Solutions

The City of Zagreb is actively assisting schools with technical adjustments, including installing new locks, making necessary structural changes, and implementing the protocol’s requirements.

By temporarily deploying professional security personnel, the City aims to ease the organisational burden on schools while enhancing safety measures.

“In this context, we view the temporary engagement of security staff as a professional step to ensure safety. This measure supports schools until they can employ their own dedicated safety personnel,” stated Dolenec.

A Positive Start to the Semester

On behalf of the City of Zagreb and school principals, Deputy Mayor Dolenec wished all students, parents, and school staff a successful start to the second semester of the 2024/2025 school year.
