Slavonska kobasica gets name protection in Europe

“Slavonska kobasica”, sausage from Croatia’s eastern Slavonian region, is the 41st Croatian product with a protected name in the European Union.
“Slavonska kobasica’” has received a European protected designation of geographical origin, the European Commission announced in the Official Journal of the European Union, which should further contribute to the branding of Slavonia and Baranja.
“Slavonska kobasica” is a long-lasting fermented sausage made from minced pork and bacon (the meat content is at least 70%) with the addition of cooking and spices (chopped sweet and spicy and ground pepper can also be added), which is stuffed into the pig’s small intestine .
The production process lasts at least 45 days, during which the raw “Slavonska kobasica” is successively subjected to the processes of fermentation, smoking, drying and ripening.
The product is produced throughout the year.
