It is not only hotels who have enjoyed full occupancy and marked growth this summer as tourists continue to flock to Croatia. Croatia’s renowned private accommodation sector has continued where it left off last year with excellent results so far this tourist season.
President of the Family Accommodation Association Nedjeljko Pinezić says that demands for beds at private accommodation is again on the rise, with peak season shifting now from July to August. Traditionally demand has eased off in August, but not this year. Statistics released earlier this month from the Central Bureau of Statistics show that there has been an increase of 15.2% in rooms rented out at private homes and apartments compared to last year. Overnight stays are also up from last year by 13.4% to 2.6 million overnight stays at private accommodation. It is estimated that beds at private homes and apartments which are rented out to tourists, make up 45% of the tourist beds in Croatia. Pinezić estimates that there are around 1.3 million beds in holiday homes in the country.
