Sportspeople of the year in Croatia announced

ZAGREB, 24 Dec (Hina) – The Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO) held a ceremony in Zagreb on Wednesday at which best athletes and best sports teams received HOO prizes for their achievements in 2022 in which Croatians have won 244 medals, according to the HOO statistics.
Of those 244 medals at international contests, including European and world championships and sports events, 85 are golds, 66 are silvers and 93 are bronze medals.
During Wednesday’s ceremony, discus thrower Sandra Perković, judoka Barbara Matić, a world champion, and taekwondo practitioner Lena Stojković, a world and European champion, were declared the best female athletes.

Shot putter Filip Mihaljević, a European champion, and Filip Jurišić, professional Croatian sailor who won a bronze at the world championships in the ILCA 7 category, were declare the male athletes of the year.
The best male teams in 2020 are the national water polo team, that won the European championships, and the national football team that has recently won the bronze in the World Cup.

There were no nominated female teams this year.
In the competition of the most successful relays, pairs and crews, the laureates went to two pairs of brothers – European rowing champions and World Cup winners Martin and Valent Sinković, and world bronze medalists in the Olympic class 49er, sailors Šime and Mihovil Fantela.

The title of coach of the year was shared by football coach Zlatko Dalić, Vladimir Preradović (judo) and Veljko Laura (taekwondo). Awards for exceptiional results in non-Olympic sports went to Mirela Kardašević – diving and Petar Klovar – diving.
The “MATIJA LJUBEK” AWARD (for lifetime achievement) went to Branko Peašinović, Miran Martinac, Zoran Roje, Mihovil Nakić – Vojnović, Nikola Plećaš.
