The Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) has released its seasonal forecast for summer 2024.

Unlike daily forecasts, this seasonal prediction indicates the probability of deviations from the average climate conditions of 1991-2020, DHMZ says.

Key Highlights:

Hotter Than Average:

Summer (June, July, August) is expected to be warmer than average with a high probability of above-average temperatures across the country.

Both minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to be higher than usual.

Less Rainfall:

Rainfall predictions are more complex and less reliable, but overall, the season is expected to have around average or slightly below-average rainfall.

The southern regions of Croatia may experience less rainfall, though isolated heavy showers could still occur.

Severe Weather Europe also predicts a hot and dry summer for Croatia, based on two main models, ECMWF and UKMO.

ECMWF Model:

Predicts above-average temperatures by 0.5 to 2 degrees Celsius for most of Europe, with Croatia expecting 1 to 2 degrees higher temperatures.

Anticipates drier conditions, especially in southern Europe, including Croatia.

UKMO Model:

Indicates the highest heat waves in eastern and northern Europe, with Croatian temperatures 0.5 to 2 degrees above average, especially in the east and south.

Suggests rainfall will be around average, with drier conditions expected along the coast.

Overall, Croatia is set for a significantly hotter summer with potential dry spells, particularly in the southern regions.
