Summer in Bakar: Green Margaret’s Summer with the sounds of Beethoven at 321 m above sea level

Margaret’s Summer in a somewhat modified edition this year is adorned with more intimate and personal programmes dedicated to nature, heritage and music. Four interesting interpretative walks through Bakar, Ponikve, the old town of Hreljin and Praputnjak will show the richness and diversity of the Bakar region.

Challenging times require flexibility and the Bakar Tourist Board have adapted to the new situation with this year’s programme of Margaret’s Summer that will take place from 26 June to 25 July. Accompanied by the finest guides, visitors will join our carefully designed tours in small groups to see the natural heritage and enjoy its beauties and attractions. Four such tours will take visitors through Bakar, Ponikve, the old town of Hreljin and Praputnjak. They are sponsored by INA, a long-term partner in such events.

26 JUNE – OPENING, A TOUR “BAKAR ON TOP”, AND PROMOTION OF BAKAR CAKE

This year, the Bakar Tourist Board decided to realize a walk through history, which marks the beginning of Margaret’s Summer on 26 June, in cooperation with local heritage professionals who jointly designed the interpretation tour “Bakar on Top”. After all the stories from the glorious Bakar’s past, the director of the Bakar Tourist Board, Sonja Jelušić Marić, will join in with the most touching story, known to only a few. Klapa Vinčace will perform at the opening, and visitors will have the opportunity to taste a real jewel of gastronomic heritage – the Bakar cake, recently rediscovered and on offer in Vrbnik Bakery.

3 JULY – “DISCOVER ALL THE FACES OF PRAPUTNJAK” – A PLACE WITH A STUNNING VIEW

The remaining tours are to nature. And our hosts will guide the first one! Heritage professionals from Praputnjak, Marija Rađa, Ivona Miloš, Tajana Frančišković and Jadranka Ajvaz will take visitors through the green Dolčina Praputnjak all the way to steep dry stone terraces called Takala, with one of the most beautiful views of Kvarner. In an interpretative walk called “Discover All the Faces of Praputnjak” they will tell about and show many fascinating historical facts about their place.

9 JULY – FAMILY TOUR “3,2,1, GO TO HRELJIN” WITH JELENA HOLENKO PIRC

The next tour called “3,2,1 … Go to Hreljin” will be realized by the Bakar Tourist Board on 9 July in collaboration with the most experienced guide of the neighbouring Gorski Kotar, Jelena Holenko Pirc from Lynx and Fox. On a tour intended primarily for families, Jelena will show the natural and historical heritage of Hreljinska Gradina. And something spectacular awaits at the end of the tour! In the year of Beethoven, the music of the famous composer will be performed by the Croatian String Quartet in a fairy-tale historical setting, 321 m above sea level, with a beautiful view of Bakar and the Kvarner islands.

17 JULY – GAMIFIED TOUR “PLAY HIRC’S SECRET LEVEL” WITH IVA SILLA IN PONIKVE

Iva Silla, a long-time associate of the Bakar Tourist Board and the creator of the great Secret Zagreb Tours, is in charge of another event in nature called “Play Hirc’s Secret Level”. On 17 July in two terms, Iva will, in the green valley of Ponikve, prepare a real surprise for young and old, an interesting tour with game elements. An interpretative tour that will bring to life, through riddles, two naturalists and professors who lived and worked in Bakar – Dragutin Hirc and Narcis Damin, and interesting facts they discovered about the phenomenon of Ponikve and the emerging and disappearing lake.
