As of today Switzerland has banned the import of live pigs and pork from several EU countries, including Croatia, in a bid to stop an African swine fever outbreak, Swiss food safety authorities reported…
Live pigs and pork, including their meat, sperm, eggs and embryos, from Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and some parts of Latvia, are banned from being imported into Switzerland. African swine fever spread throughout the Balkans, the Caucasus and Russia since 2007, and is endemic to areas of Africa, according to the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
Croatia’s Ministry of Agriculture denies that there are any cases of the African swine fever in Croatia, saying that the fever has never been detected in Croatia, and until now had not received any information from authorities in Switzerland regarding the ban.
