Tamburica and Mandolin: Uniting Slavonian and Dalmatian culture

The 23rd “Tamburica and Mandolin” folklore evening, organised by the cultural association KUD “7 Kaštela”, will take place on 24th August at 20:30 on the Brca in Kaštel Stari.

This evening traditionally brings together the cultural essence of Slavonia and Dalmatia in the heart of Kaštela.

You can expect a vibrant display of colours, costumes, songs, melodies, and dance steps, all set against the stunning backdrop of the historic Brca.

As part of the folklore evening, there will also be an exhibition on Croatian emigration to Chile.

This year, in addition to the rich programme and numerous guests from Dalmatia and Slavonia, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a photography exhibition titled  “𝗧𝗔𝗠𝗢 𝗚𝗗𝗝𝗘 𝗦𝗨 𝗠𝗢𝗝𝗜 𝗞𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗝𝗘𝗡𝗜” (Where My Roots Are.) The exhibition, curated by Jorge Luis Subiabre Matiach, will open at 17:00.

Jorge Luis Subiabre Matiach, born in Punta Arenas, Chile, is a fourth-generation descendant of Croatians.

He will share the story of his great-grandfather, Tomo Matijaca, who left Kaštel Lukšić for South America in 1903. The exhibition is organised in collaboration with the Croatian Heritage Foundation, Split branch, under the guidance of Ante Ćaleta.

KUD “7 Kaštela” is dedicated to preserving Croatian folk dances, songs, and traditional music through its dance and instrumental sections.
