Terezijana: Largest tourist and cultural event in central Croatia

The largest tourist and cultural event in central Croatia has just ended for the 26th consecutive year.
The traditional Terezijana, which ended this past weekend in the city of Bjelovar, was visited by the President of Croatia, Zoran Milanović.
Terezijana in Bjelovar is an event is based on the legend of the founding of the city and the stay by Empress Maria Theresa in the area.
Back when she ruled over the Kingdom, Empress Maria Theresa paid a visit to her border guards who defended the Monarchy against Ottoman conquests.
During her travels, she witnessed unit defending the area known today as Bjelovar. She was impressed with the local soldiers and as a sign of her appreciation she built a new city there and that is how Bjelovar came to be.
From 15 to 19 June 2022, customs and traditions from Bjelovar were on display at Terezijana, as well as theatrical scenes inspired by legends on the defense of Bilogora villages from the Ottoman conquerors, a rich musical and cultural programme, an agricultural and crafts fair, and the local gastronomy through the Okusi Bilogore (Flavours of Bilogora) programme.
