Tesla’s Light Symphony: Gospić becomes the host of a three-day event Tesla – Power of Lights
A plethora of light enchantments, concerts, children’s performances, and night races in honour of the 167th anniversary of Nikola Tesla’s birth.
Let’s hope that this year, at least once, through a lightning bolt in the evening sky adorned with beautiful light installations, the timeless genius Nikola Tesla will greet his homeland and numerous visitors. They will gather from July 8th to 10th to commemorate the 167th anniversary of his birth.
The City of Gospić and the Tourist Board of the City of Gospić are organising a variety of highly attractive events: artistic, sports, musical, and children’s events. The Tesla – Power of Lights program is just a part of the month-long events that will undoubtedly attract many visitors, whether they are just passing through this beautiful region or choosing attractive Lika for their annual vacation in the greenery and pleasant temperatures.
The program starts on July 8th (Saturday) in the evening with a creative performance for children called Fireflies. Although intended for the youngest ones, it will not leave anyone indifferent, as the little artists will play with light effects on the ground and in the air. After the artistic introduction, the costumed “Nikola Tesla” will take the visitors on a walk through Gospić and introduce them to his life and work. The walk is just a prelude to an interesting evening that continues with the performance/workshop Poi.
As a warm-up, the young electronic music talent from Gospić, Mak Kolić, is preparing, and the atmosphere will be brought to a climax by Andrologic aka Fabric of Dreams with their performances at the atrium of the Gospić Cultural and Information Center (free concert). Andrologic perfectly combines beats and has been collaborating with many strong global names in electronic music for years.
Sunday, July 9th, is perfect for socialising with friends and family, and if it’s spent outdoors, it becomes even more valuable. The 4th edition of the Lika Night Run race, led by the Velebit Athletics Club, starts at 7 pm, and before that, children will compete in a kids’ race. At 9:30 pm, the stage will be taken over by the group Dalmatino, currently filling arenas, and now the visitors in Gospić will have the opportunity to listen to them. They will sing “Dvi, tri riči” and invite you to search for “Zvizda Danica” with them. But not everything will be just about music; the concert will be accompanied by interactive light games (laser harp, labyrinth, laser show), creating a unique overall experience.
The Nikola Tesla Memorial Center in Smiljan will be the host of the third day of the event on July 10th (Monday), and the entrance for visitors will be free. Among the diverse content, we highlight a round table discussion on the topic “Tesla – a man of human qualities,” and those skilled in billiards will surely try their hand at a carom billiards game with Tesla, starting at 4 pm. The evening program heats up at 9 pm with a musical-theatrical performance by Janez Dovž, a representative of the Nikola Tesla Network.
Theater enthusiasts will have the opportunity to choose some real treats: Theater Kerekeš’ performance is scheduled for July 12th, Pero Juričić will bring his show on July 13th, Theater Lectirum’s play can be watched on July 19th, and the artistic quartet concludes with Theater Planet Art on July 25th.
But summer in Lika lasts the entire month, so here are some other events worth visiting. The group Vatra will heat up everyone with their hits on July 15th, and on July 20th, starting at 5 pm, there will be a night ascent to Visočica. Gospić residents will enjoy concerts by the groups Latino and Slavonske Lole on July 22nd, and the following morning, July 23rd, cycling enthusiasts will warm up with a joyful bike ride. Just a few days before the end of the month, on July 28th, a real musical treat awaits – the group Urban&4, who will share their love and dedication to music with the audience.
Tickets for the concerts by Urban&4 and Vatra can be purchased at the Gospić Cultural and Information Center, and all other programs are free.
