Croatia is full of unique, fun events, and Blitvijada, the Swiss chard (blitva in Croatian) party which takes place in Podgora on the Dalmatian coast, is one definitely worth checking out.
“Green, how I want you green” wrote Federico García Lorca, maybe inspired by his visit to Podgora, but honestly probably not.
What is certain is that this year on September 29th, Podgora will dress in green, both locals and guests.
The event “2nd Swiss Chard Party” will take place at Don Mihovil Pavlinović Square with a greenish program that starts with children’s workshop, photo corner, story about Swiss chard and why Podgora’s Swiss chard is the best.
Entertainment for young and old will be brought by Svijet čarolije Studio, while DJ Dupli and the Academic Band are the main responsible for the music program.
Have you ever tried Swiss chard ice cream, we have and it’s fantastic. Your taste buds at this Swiss chard party/Blitvijada will be tempted and satisfied by Premis ice creams, Poetica Distillery Vrgorac, chard pie workshop, Jeti Fritters and others while the Swiss chard delicacies will be made by local associations, societies, restaurants and hotels, as well as individuals with the winner announcement.
The kindergarten and primary school from Podgora will participate in the competition for the best artistic and literary work on the topic of our dear Swiss chard.
In addition to this cool event taking place in Podgora, you can enjoy perfect September weather, beautiful beaches framed by the Biokovo mountain and plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature and sightseeing.
“We recommend you to listen your mothers and grandmothers and go green and eat something healthy, that’s why we invite you all to Blitvijada in Podgora. The preferred dress code for all guests is green clothing,” organisers said.
For those who have culinary skills, applications for the competition in the best chard dish are still opened, until September 27.
