Božica Šimunčić, Martina Marušić Britvec, and Ana Kordić from the Nikola Tesla Experience Centre in Karlovac were the winners of the Best Strudel in Croatia competition.
This cheerful all-female team created a strudel filled with plums, apples, and figs, impressing the judges with their combination of flavours.
The competition was held as part of Strudlafest, Croatia’s biggest strudel festival, which welcomed numerous visitors to Jaškovo, the village of strudels, near Ozalj.
From 6th to 8th September, guests indulged in delicious strudels as well as many other local delicacies.
The sweetest event was opened by the band Psihomodo Pop and will close with a performance by Toma. Creative and culinary workshops added a special charm to the festival, with Strudlafest ambassadors generously sharing tips on how to make the perfect strudel.
In addition to feasting, this year’s Strudlafest also offered cycling, boating, walking, and horse riding. Guests from Austria and even America showcased their skills in strudel-making.
This year’s edition, organised in collaboration with the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS), also featured a zip line for children, and visitors could admire Scottish cattle and explore a traditional culinary corner.
Strudlafest enjoys huge support from visitors, with over fifteen thousand people attending each year.
It also benefits from the backing of the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ), the City of Ozalj, the Kupa River Area Tourist Board, and the Karlovac County Tourist Board, all of whom continue to give strong support to this fantastic project.
