The Cathedral of St. James in the Croatian city of Šibenik captivates with its beauty, making it one of the most sought-after wedding venues.

Martina and Eddy, Canadian Croatians, also chose this stunning location to celebrate their most important day surrounded by family and friends who flew in from Toronto, Canada.

The Croatian-Canadian celebration began with traditional Dalmatian songs. The bride’s family hails from the island of Pag, and the groom’s from Murter.

Both were born and raised in Canada but remain deeply connected to their Croatian roots.

“I’m happy to be in Croatia for my wedding,” said the groom, Eddy Mudronja told HRT.

“I met Eddy at a dance about 15 years ago, and as soon as we started dating, we knew we wanted to get married somewhere in Croatia,” added the bride, Martina Mudronja.

So, they crossed the Atlantic and arrived in Šibenik with as many as 150 guests to celebrate their love.

“It’s so beautiful here. I never imagined we would come and have a wedding here, but it’s truly lovely for everyone,” said best man Ivan Koloper.

“We’re glad the children found each other, as second-generation Canadians, and we’re overjoyed to return to Croatia for their wedding,” said Martina’s parents, Milan and Vesna Kolaković.

For everyone, it was both a romantic and logical choice. Although they are seven thousand kilometres away from Croatia, they cherish their culture and traditions.

“It’s very important, and my children—I have two little girls—I always speak to them in Croatian so they can speak the language, know about our church, our Catholic faith, everything connected to Croatia. We want to visit often,” highlighted maid of honour Kristina Ćorković.
