Fairytales have been a beloved form of storytelling for centuries, capturing the imaginations of audiences young and old alike. These tales, often filled with magical creatures, heroes, and heroines, have stood the test of time and continue to be a source of fascination and inspiration for people around the world.
From the Brothers Grimm to Hans Christian Andersen, fairytales have been passed down through generations and have become a staple of popular culture.
According to recent research conducted by the language-learning ed-tech company FlashAcademy®, in which search analytic data was compiled from across the world to determine which fairytales were the most-searched in each country, the significance of fairytales is a worldwide phenomenon.
In the research, each fairytale was given a search index rating per country, with a maximum score of 100.
In Croatia, the most popular fairytale was Hansel and Gretel, achieving a search index score of 100.
Known in Croatia as Ivica i Marica, this fairytale details the challenges a brother and sister, Hansel and Gretel, face as they try to find their way home after becoming lost in the woods.
Like all good fairytales, this story includes thrilling encounters with mythical creatures and magical beings. Hansel and Gretel is by the Brothers Grimm and was first published in 1812 as part of Grimm’s Fairy Tales.
Hansel and Gretel was also the most popular fairytale in the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.
